  • About, first image

Vineyards ploughed by horse, bio-dynamic methods and even a crystal in the vat room to create ‘good vibes’. You will find all these at Champagne De Sousa, but above all you will find champagnes of outstanding character and exceptional quality. Constantly striving for excellence in all he does, Erick is open to anything that will help him achieve his aim of letting the terroir express itself in the wines. He started using barrels in 1995 when they were not in fashion and he started practicing bio-dynamics in 1999. “People thought we were aliens when we started bio-dynamics”’ says Erick, “but they’re listening now”. Today Erick and his wife Michelle are joined by their son and daughters who are taking their place in the family business. The launch of a new brand, Zoémie de Sousa, named after a matriarch of the family, will bring these amazing champagnes to a wider audience.

Champagnes of the utmost precision from some of the finest plots in La Côte des Blancs.

Erick and Michelle

Erick and Michelle

Erick took over the family business in 1986 after studying at the viticultural college in Avize and 1 year military service. Since then it’s been constant progress and innovation for him and his wife Michelle. Erick introduced oak barrels and created the highly rated Caudalie range which now numbers 4 cuvées. He started using bio-dynamic methods in 1999 and created another new champagne, Cuvee 3A. His latest creation, Umami, will be ready in late 2014

In 2011 Charlotte completed a Masters at the OIV (L'Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) and holds qualifications in commerce as well. She takes a full and active part in the wine making and has particular responsibility for export sales.

Following in the family tradition Julie studied viticulture and oenology in Beaune. Her other interests include horses and she regularly takes the reins to manage the ploughing of the vineyards

After completing his studies in the Lycée Viticole at Avize, Valentin is continuing his studies in commerce in Beaune.

Our aim is to create champagnes that reflect their origins, so many of the barrels are made from local oak.

Preserving our old vines is crucial to our constant quest for the highest possible quality; some vines date from as long ago as 1933.
